On 25 April 2009, Alessandra Aula, Permanent Representative of Bice to the United Nations participated to the Symposium « Pathologies of Reason, Pathologies of Religion » where she made a presentation on religion against human rights? The case of diffamation of religions at the UN.

Bice welcomes the UN Secretary- General’s appointment of Marta Santos Pais of Portugal as Special Representative on violence against children.
Last 1 May 2009, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Marta Santos Pais of Portugal as his Special Representative on Violence against Children at the level of Assistant Secretary-General (SRSG). The International Catholic Child Bureau (Bice) is extremely pleased with the SG decision of appointing a committed, experienced and passionate mandate-holder as Ms. Santos Pais has been demostrating all along her professional life.

States, the international community, media, moral and religious leaders and civil society are called to get engaged in view of a new mobilization for childhood
A hundred of representatives working on child-related issues and the rights of the child coming from Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe-CIS will gather in Geneva next 4 June to launch a World Appeal to a New Mobilization for Childhood. Even before its official launching on 4 June, the Appeal has in a few weeks already collected hundreds of signatures. It will remain open to institutional or individual signature up to 20 November 2009.
